Your BrainsWay®  Deep TMS Psychiatrist at Lumos

The dedicated, caring team at Lumos Advanced Treatment Center understands how hard it is to live with mental health symptoms that conventional treatment hasn’t relieved. That’s why we offer BrainsWay® Deep TMS, an advanced, non-invasive, drug-free therapy that gives new hope to people who haven’t found relief through medication or talk therapy alone.

Deep TMS reflects our commitment to your well-being and to providing treatment options that fit into your life.

What Is BrainsWay® Deep TMS?

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive, drug-free therapy that uses gentle magnetic pulses, the same kind used in an MRI, to stimulate the areas of the brain involved in mood regulation.

BrainsWay® Deep TMS is an advanced form of TMS. Instead of the small figure-8 coil used by conventional TMS, BrainsWay uses a patented H-Coil, cushioned inside a comfortable helmet, that reaches broader and deeper brain regions tied to depression, anxiety and OCD.

There is no anesthesia or sedation, and nothing is swallowed or injected. You remain awake throughout your treatment and can drive yourself home and return to work, school or other normal activities right afterward.

What Can I Expect After My First TMS Treatment?

Deep TMS is delivered in short weekday sessions of about 20 minutes. A typical course runs five days a week for roughly six weeks, often followed by a brief taper, tailored by Dr. Maitra to your response.

During a session, you sit comfortably in a chair, awake and alert, while wearing the cushioned BrainsWay helmet. You’ll feel a light tapping sensation on your scalp as the magnetic pulses are delivered.

There’s no recovery time, and most people go straight back to their normal day. Some patients notice a mild headache or scalp tenderness during the first week or two, which usually eases as treatment continues.

Many people begin to notice a difference within a few weeks. Your Lumos team tracks your progress throughout your course of treatment and adjusts your care as needed.
