Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Therapy in San Jose, CA

What is NeuroStarⓇ TMS?

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) by NeuroStar is a modern approach to mental health and other neurological conditions. NeuroStarⓇ TMS is a non-invasive and drug-free alternative to improving a patient’s mental well-being, especially for those who haven’t had positive experiences with traditional methods.

With focused magnetic fields, TMS stimulates specific regions of the brain that play a crucial role in the condition and symptoms you may be experiencing. The magnetic pulses utilized by TMS offer pain-free help in restoring dormant neural pathways to help alleviate symptoms of depression and other conditions.

What Can I Expect After My First TMS Treatment?

Throughout your NeuroStarⓇ TMS treatment, you may begin to notice positive changes in your symptoms and overall mental well-being. Individual responses may vary between patients, so it is essential to remember that TMS is a cumulative therapy, meaning that the therapeutic benefits of each treatment accumulate over time. Consistent and continued treatment often achieves optimal results.

As you progress through your NeuroStarⓇ TMS treatment, our experienced team of mental health specialists will closely monitor your response and make any necessary adjustments for your unique therapy experience. Your NeuroStarⓇ TMS Psychiatrist will provide support while you progress. At Lumos Advanced Treatment Center, we strive to achieve the best possible outcomes for your mental health and well-being.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does NeuroStarⓇ TMS Work in Decreasing My Depression Symptoms?

In a study of “real-world” outcomes (meaning actual NeuroStar TMS patients), 83% of people who completed the full NeuroStar TMS treatment cycle experienced a measurable decrease in the severity of their depression, and 62% of those completing treatment saw full remission – meaning their depression effectively “went away.”*

Does the NeuroStarⓇ TMS Procedure Hurt?

A typical treatment session takes under 30 minutes, does not involve anesthesia or medication, and is painless. While there may be some minor discomfort at the treatment site (where the device touches your head), it generally subsides within the first week of treatment.

You can read, watch TV, or discuss your treatment with your treatment coordinator during your session. During Neurostar TMS treatment, you remain fully awake and alert and can resume daily activities immediately afterward, including driving.

Some patients report feeling a “tapping” or discomfort when the device touches their head. If you experience any pain during your TMS session, please notify your clinician.

Is NeuroStarⓇ TMS Treatment Appropriate for Teens and Adolescents?

NeuroStarⓇ TM has been approved for teens and adolescents with a diagnosis of major depressive disorder (MDD) between the ages of 15 and 21. Please ask your child’s clinician or mental health team if they think your child could benefit from TMS treatments.

What are the Side Effects of NeuroStarⓇ TMS Treatments?

Some patients prefer TMS treatments because they do not have the same increased risk of side effects as SSRIs or other medications.
