What Should I Know About ADHD?

ADHD is a multifaceted condition with symptoms that evolve over time. Children might exhibit signs of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity, affecting their academic performance and social interactions. Adults, on the other hand, might struggle with time management, organization, maintaining relationships, and workplace productivity. Recognizing the breadth of these symptoms is the first step toward effective management:

  • Persistent difficulties in maintaining focus on tasks or activities
  • Excessive anxiety that interferes with daily functioning
  • Challenges in staying engaged while reading or during conversations
  • Frequent feelings of restlessness and an inability to relax
  • Issues with memory and following detailed instructions
  • Significant disorganization and a propensity to misplace things
  • Habitual procrastination and failure to meet deadlines
  • Chronic lateness and difficulties managing time efficiently
  • Tendencies toward impulsiveness, leading to hasty decisions without considering consequences
  • Struggles with addiction, indicating potential coping mechanisms for underlying ADHD symptoms
  • A noticeable lack of motivation affects personal and professional life

With a notable prevalence of anxiety alongside ADHD, it’s vital to approach treatment holistically, addressing both the core symptoms of ADHD and the associated emotional challenges.

Lumos Psychiatric Reviews

Dr. Maitra is awesome! I can't say enough about her. She cares about her patients and has a great team of co-workers. Swati goes above and beyond and handles extra tasks for me. More than recommended for anyone who wants a great professional at an accommodating clinic with a lovely team of staff members. Thanks for everything, guys!

I didn't want to consult a psychiatrist because my lifestyle demanded mental health therapy. I thought I could do it all, handle it all, and be the superwoman everyone thought I was and my family expected of me...anxiety and depression took over my life and I tried everything to rise above it. In my 20s, I was diagnosed with ADHD. Left untreated, the symptoms tormented my life and hurt people I loved. Dr. Maitra is compassionate and the best psychiatrist around. She helped me understand I had a biological imbalance, not just a mental illness. She gave me the strength to share my journey without shame. Dr. Maitra has also been helping me with other private concerns, so I'm confident and hopeful I can overcome these too. Her office is gorgeous and her team handles the important aspects! I would recommend her to anyone who needs a second or third opportunity, is hesitant about a diagnosis, fears judgment, or has lost hope!

She's humble and kind. If you trust her, she can change your life too!

Dr. Maitra saved my life. She doesn't just sit with you for 15 minutes and send you on your way. She cares, she listens and she prescribes accordingly. Her staff was always responsive and caring. When I moved out of state she even helped me get set up with a new psychiatrist. I'm eternally grateful for Dr. Maitra and her staff.
Dr. Maitra is a rare type of doctor. She takes extra time with each of her patients. Although this sometimes means waiting a bit more for your appointment, it ensures adequate time is given to address your issues. Dr. Maitra along with her staff are very friendly and accommodating. They provide snacks and water for while waiting in the lobby. The overall atmosphere in her clinic is that of a "mom and pop shop". The staff are respectful and yet very personable. I cannot recommend her services enough.
I highly recommend this psychiatric service to anyone looking for an educated MD who actually cares about her clients and makes sure they are taken care of. Dr Maitra is truly one of a kind and my family is very thankful that we found her after wasting thousands of dollars with other psychiatric firms who only take your money and don’t actually care about their patients. I searched high and low throughout the bay area and Lumos and Dr Maitra are by far the best service I have found. You will not be disappointed if you are generally looking for help and a Doctor who actually cares about your health and wellbeing! The staff here are also extremely responsive and helpful and will never leave you out in the cold in a time of need. So glad I found Lumos and Dr Maitra!
Dr Maitra is a genuine docter I have seenUntil now. She is giving me treatment forDepression. She is so Flexible and had been there for me every time I had a problem. She gives good medicine for depression. She is an amazing docter.
I found Dr Maitra and her wonderful staff during the pandemic. She was one of the very few doctors who responded to my many emails. Dr. Maitra is one of a kind! She is compassionate, genuinely cares about her patients, and willing to meet them where they are to help them get well.
I love Lumos. Not only is Dr. Maitra a caring, warm, smart and experienced Psychiatrist, her staff is also caring and efficient. Can't ask for a better team.
