Teen Depression Treatment in San Jose & Los Gatos, CA
Compassionate Teen Depression Treatment in San Jose and Los Gatos
Teen depression is more than occasional sadness or mood swings. It is a serious mental health condition that can affect a teenager’s emotions, behavior, relationships, academic performance, and overall well-being. At Lumos Psychiatric Services, we provide compassionate and personalized teen depression treatment in San Jose and Los Gatos, helping adolescents and families navigate difficult emotional challenges with expert support.
The teenage years are filled with emotional, social, and physical changes that can sometimes feel overwhelming. While many teens experience stress from school, friendships, social pressures, and future expectations, ongoing feelings of sadness, hopelessness, isolation, or emotional withdrawal may signal clinical depression. Early intervention can play an important role in helping teens develop healthy coping skills and regain confidence in daily life.
Signs and Symptoms of Teen Depression
Depression in teenagers may present differently than it does in adults. Some teens openly express sadness, while others may become withdrawn, irritable, or emotionally disconnected. Recognizing the warning signs early can help families seek the support their teen needs before symptoms worsen.
Common signs of teen depression may include:
- Persistent sadness or hopelessness
- Loss of interest in hobbies or activities
- Irritability or mood swings
- Changes in eating or sleeping habits
- Difficulty concentrating in school or an increase in ADHD symptoms
- Withdrawal from family and friends
- Fatigue or low energy
- Feelings of worthlessness or guilt
- Increased anxiety or emotional sensitivity
If these symptoms continue for more than a few weeks or begin interfering with daily functioning, professional mental health support may be beneficial.
Personalized Teen Depression Therapy and Psychiatry Services
At Lumos Psychiatric Services, we understand that every teen’s experience with depression is unique. Our approach focuses on creating individualized treatment plans tailored to each adolescent’s emotional needs, challenges, and personal goals.
Dr. Sarbani Maitra specializes in adolescent psychiatry and provides compassionate care in a supportive environment where teens feel heard, respected, and understood. Treatment may include therapy, psychiatric evaluations, medication management when appropriate, and ongoing emotional support for both teens and their families.
We believe mental health treatment should focus not only on symptom relief but also on helping teens build resilience, healthy coping strategies, emotional awareness, and long-term confidence.

Dr. Maitra is awesome! I can't say enough about her. She cares about her patients and has a great team of co-workers. Swati goes above and beyond and handles extra tasks for me. I didn't want to consult a psychiatrist because my lifestyle demanded mental health therapy. I thought I could do it all, handle it all, and be the superwoman everyone thought I was and my family expected of me...anxiety and depression took over my life and I tried everything to rise above it. In my 20s, I was diagnosed with ADHD. Left untreated, the symptoms tormented my life and hurt people I loved. Dr. Maitra is compassionate and the best psychiatrist around. She helped me understand I had a biological imbalance, not just a mental illness. She gave me the strength to share my journey without shame. Dr. Maitra has also been helping me with other private concerns, so I'm confident and hopeful I can overcome these too. Her office is gorgeous and her team handles the important aspects! I would recommend her to anyone who needs a second or third opportunity, is hesitant about a diagnosis, fears judgment, or has lost hope!
She's humble and kind. If you trust her, she can change your life too!
